TRANSPORTATION to/from TURKISH AIRPORTS

In all major Turkish cities, the terminals at airports operate shuttles buses to and from the airports at a very reasonable fee. However, in Istanbul for example; the fastest and most comfortable way to travel to and from the airport is by taxi cab. Taxi cabs are readily available at all airports 24-hours. There are two international airports in Istanbul.

ISTANBUL - ATATÜRK INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
is on the European side of the city and 20 km (~12 miles) from the city center TAKSİM.
This airport also called as YESILKOY AIRPORT.

There are 3 terminals:

- DIŞ HATLAR (International),
- IÇ HATLAR (Domestic),
- Termial 'C' (Charter).

All these 3 terminals are connected by regular shuttle service of HAVAŞ, which is free of charge. HAVAŞ is the name of the airtport transportation company. Watch for HAVAŞ buses!

HAVAŞ also operates buses in every half an hour routing (from 05:00 am until 11:30 pm), from international and domestic terminals to downtown of Istanbul at TAKSİM SQUARE. Fee is very reasonable and Havas buses are very convenient and affordable alternative to taxis for transportation from airports to downtown areas or from downtown areas to airports in Turkey. As Istanbul is a big city... generally speaking; when you travel to or from airport, depending on the hours of your travels, heavy traffic delays may occur so it is recommended that you leave your hotel at least about 3 or 4 hours before your scheduled flight.

Istanbul has another airport in Asian side of the city:
SABİHA GÖKÇEN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT:

This airport is located near suburb of PENDİK and about 20 miles(~31Km) distance from the KADIKÖY ferry station. Transport between this airport to the Atatürk Airport and the center of Istanbul is always available by HAVAŞ Airport Bus service and taxi cabs. Mejor car rental companies offer their services in this airport too.

P l e a s e n o t e !
There is no direct / non-stop HAVAŞ bus service between Istanbul's two airports. Passangers can take a HAVAŞ bus service from either airport to TAKSİM city center on the European side or to the Erenköy / KOZYATAĞI on the Asian side of the city. Then by taken necessary transfer with another HAVAŞ bus the other airport can be reached.

But if your final destination is one of the seaside suburb, you might consider taken HAVAŞ bus from Atatürk Airport and step out from the bus at Sea Bus station in BAKIRKÖY suburb. From this point ISTANBUL SEA BUS SERVICE regularly runs to other several seaside suburbs, including the 3 of the Princesss Island.

The most of car rental agencies have offices in major tourist destinations. We highly discourage renting a car in any of the big cities... especially in Istanbul ! ! !

The reason for this is because traffic is at a standstill most of the time and parking spaces are hard to come by.
