PAMUKKALE :  (Ancient HIERAPOLIS)
Do you know what PAMUKKALE means in Turkish?  Well, the answer is simple. Because of its physical appearance, Turks call Pamukkale, which means Cotton Castle.

Pamukkale is extraordinary natural wonder of Turkey and you got to see it!
It is a natural calcified waterfall. Even in winter season water temperature is about 98 fahrenheit(37C).

Pamukkale is at a distance of 13 miles(19 kilometers) from DENIZLI and 144 miles (230km) to IZMIR airport. Also three hours drive from resort cities of BODRUM, MARMARIS and KUSADASI.

In Pamukkale all the activity is thermal center itself and the ruins of ancient HIERAPOLIS (the ruins of the baths, temples and other Greek monuments) and hotels are on top of the plateau.

During years and years a vast white cliff side with scallop-shaped basins of water and frozen waterfalls. It looks as if it's made out of snow or cloud or balls of cotton.

By the scientific explanation Pamukkale is; hot thermal springs pouring down the hillside deposit calcium carbonate, which solidifies as travertine.
If you take off your shoes, you can gingerly roam the terraces or paddle in the pools.

This hot spring water (Magnesium-Calcium sulphate-Hydrogen carbonate-Thermal Water) have been used since Roman times for their therapeutic powers. See table of contents.

Today people all over the world comes here for the same reason and stay few days in the hotels and motels here, which some of them even have private pool for each guest room.

Human hands created some physical changes to this area... some say, now it is better than before , other say the opposite. But what we are meaning is, the area's hotels and motels for their own business benefit have done some changes on water flows, and the result of this, spots on the plateau got dry out and even became useless.

Meanwhile it is not free of charge to view the natural beauty of Pamukkale anymore, because the most of the beautiful spots are accupated by hotels and resorts now.

The history tell us that, HIERAPOLIS had been offered as a present by her husband to HIERA, wife and Queen and the place so has been called HIERAPOLIS. Unfortunately in earlier years this beautiful place was demolished by numerous earthquakes... but each time constructed again.

Btw; everything was different nowadays. Women do not give much attention, or importance, to the way the man express their feelings. A trifle seems to satisfy them. Actually a very wise philosophy!

Another thermal center northwest of Pamukkale, KARAHAYIT is known for its water's high-iron content.

Several hotels in Pamukkale offers spa and special mud massages. PAMUKKALE is worth seeing and I hope you will come to visit.
